AVRSB Students Take on Acadia Robotics Championships

On March 4, several student teams from AVRSB schools took part in the 12th Annual Robot Programming Competitions at Acadia University, the provincial championships for First Lego League and Lego Robotics groups.

Joining the competition were school teams from Kings County Academy, Northeast Kings Education Centre, Wolfville School, Annapolis West Education Centre and Horton High School. In addition, several community/neighbourhood teams from across our region also took part.

In the Robofest high school robotics competition, Horton’s Robats and AWEC’s Royal Robots placed third and fourth respectively in the RoboHit game competition. In the BottleSumo competition, the Horton Robats took second.

In the First Lego League competition for students ages 9 to 14, Team Robo Lobo Wired of Wolfville School earned the Strategy and Innovation Award, while team coach, Andy Pitter, received an Outstanding Coach Award. The Royal Robots of Annapolis West Education Centre took home a Robot Performance Award in addition to finishing first overall. The Royal Robots will now proceed to a First Lego League competition in St. Louis, MO.

Lego robotics clubs and competitions encourage students to use creative thinking and teamwork while having fun learning principles of science, technology, engineering, math, computer science, art and design.

Congratulations to all robotics team members and coaches for your hard work and effort!
